Destiny Africa Choir Performs On Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday Celebrations on the 18th June |

| After an hour’s drive from the Kampala Children’s Centre in Wakiso, the children of the ‘Destiny Africa Choir’ finally stormed the residence of the British High Commissioner located on Kyadondo Road in Nakasero, Kampala. At the residence, the fence and entrance gates were heavily guarded by armed security personnel and it took the choir five minutes just to get through all the security measures before they could enter!
The Children were welcomed by Mr. Martin Shearman, the British High Commissioner, and his wife, Miriam, at around 4:35pm. They were very excited to see the children and seemed very impressed by the Kikoyi outfits (a traditional Uganda dress) that the members of ‘Destiny Africa’ were wearing. |

| As soon as the children were shown to their changing room, their leaders briefed them on a few changes in the day’s programme. Then, Miriam and Martin appeared in the changing room for a private rendition of the British national anthem which they enjoyed and happily gave their approval for it to be sung again for the all of the invited guests. |

| The cocktail party was full of diplomats; including Ambassadors, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, prominent businessmen and British nationals. As soon as ‘Destiny Africa’ began their performance, they got the full attention of the diplomats as they began with their unique welcome drumming, followed by five songs from their CD album. |

The ‘Destiny Africa Choir’, dressed in their traditional African attire, made a huge impact on the 400 gathered dignitaries by singing ‘God Save The Queen’. On top of that, Opio Joel a KCC child and member of the choir who was rescued from the brutal Northern Ugandan war, gave a very moving speech about his life before and after KCC, which touched the hearts of those gathered there.
The children really enjoyed the occasion – especially the food! |
