We were coming to the end of our two weeks in Uganda, where we had had a wonderful time working with the children at an Easter Camp and at KCC, when news came that the Uganda Probation Service (Children’s Department) had phoned Arnold to ask him to take some vulnerable newborn babies whose mother had tragically died in childbirth.
Upon their arrival at a small shanty town house, Olive and Ruth found the twins (a boy and a girl) naked and very weak. They were only 2 days old and had only had water to drink. Fortunately, Olive and Ruth had been able to take nappies, clothes and blankets with them from the many generous donations given to KCC.
They arrived back at KCC having set in motion the paperwork to have them both adopted. Once there, the two tiny little babies found themselves surrounded by lots of excited children and adults. Although this was a very sad situation, there was great excitement at the thought of these two babies becoming a part of the extended and loving family at KCC.
As for me, I felt very privileged to have been there at the start of these two little babies new lives, now been named Timothy and Tegan. I know that we will certainly be returning again to watch them grow up along with all their ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ in such a marvellous environment. |
