KCC News Update May 2008
Its only May 2008 yet already this year so much has happened at KCC. God is continuing to work in awesome ways and contstantly reminds us of His amazing love and faithfulness. Thankyou so much for all your support which is making an overwhelming difference.

How are the children?

Early this year we saw the grand official opening of phase 1 of Kampala Children’s Centre, a memorable and exciting moment as our children performed in dance and music. One highlight was the amazing drum performance some of the older boys performed. It was amazing to see all the children so happy and bursting with life, the transformation in these children’s lives is incredible and such a picture of Gods redeeming love.

All the children are progressing well at school and even our youngest enjoy learning at the kindergarten. We have set up sports programmes including swimming and football as the children love to keep active! They all enjoyed a fantastic Easter with chicken and sodas to celebrate on Easter Sunday! Overall life at KCC is busy and always resenates with the beautiful sound of children laughing and singing.

Holiday Camps

We have held two camps over the last few months which have been times of great fun, interaction and learning. Thank you so much to all the volunteers who so generously came and served the children in Uganda. We are passionate about KCC bringing transformation to the community and the camps are a part of bringing that dream into reality.

Each camp was filled with over 150 lively children from KCC and surrounding communities and the programme each day was packed full of games, craft, drama and lots of singing!

One of the volunteer leaders Stuart Holmes wrote “During our trip to Uganda at Easter 2008, we had the privilege of running a children’s camp for children from KCC and also from other areas such as Kisenyi. We had an amazing time and it was brilliant to meet the children and see their joy as they took part in the camps activities. Our team was made up mainly of young people who I know, were all challenged and changed as a result of being there. We can’t wait to be back there next year!”

Where are we in construction?

We are very excited that houses 6 and 7
are now finished and will soon become
a home to another 24 children including
babies. Thousands of babies are abandoned in hopsitals and police stations so the need is huge. The construction of house 8 and 9 will also be completed by the end of the summer.

The kindergarten on site is now roofed and only needs to be plastered and painted. We are hoping to begin using it in June; this will also provide education for many children from the community, many who have not been attending school due to the lack of funds for schools fees. Construction of the children’s play area, carpentry workshop and a resource centre are all progressing well.

With the help of KCC’s music directors, the children have formed a choir and will be singing and dancing in a 5 week tour around England starting mid September 08.
Whether you want to hold an event for the choir or simply attend one of the concerts, make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to come meet and watch these amazing children.Get everyone you know to come too! For any information on the choir please contact Ruth Coleman on ruth@ndenetwork.com.

It is hard to even imagine now how ill and malnourished some of the children were when they came into the centre, they have been totally transformed and their childhood has been given back to them. We all strive to be significant and to be loved. We long for security and in that place we can grow. We have found this to be just as true for the children we bring into KCC. As they experience being unconditionally loved and feel secure we are watching them grow into such unique and beautiful children. They have a confidence that comes from knowing they are significant and precious.

In an interview a couple of months ago Able one of our valuable mothers at KCC said “These children were very tiny and malnourished when I first had them. I have watched them growing into friendly and healthy children. As a mother, my greatest desire is to love the unloved, the despised, the untouchable and bring a change in their lives so that the Glory of God can be manifested”.

We want to thank you for helping play a part in the picture to give these beautiful children a new hope and a new start.
