Years of conflict and the Aids crisis in Uganda have left many children destitute, without parents, a place to call home or any hope for the future.
We are responding to this need by building
a place of hope.
Kampala Children’s Centre first opened in September 2005 with the aim of meeting the needs of some of Uganda’s most desperate children.
We started with a 30-acre site, 10 miles west of Kampala in the district ‘Wakiso’, and through many generous donations we have been able to invest and build many homes, a kindergarten school, a carpentry workshop, a farm, an office and much more.
We have also purchased more land, which will enable us in the future to rescue more children…'Giving the best to the least'.
Our vision is to provide loving homes, a high standard of education and a happy safe childhood. Providing hope to the helpless and a new start to the most vulnerable of children.
We especially focus on:
- Those who have been left destitute from the horrific war that took place in Northern Uganda. Though the war has ceased, thousands of children face life as orphans.
- Those living in extreme poverty in city slums suffering malnutrition, vulnerable to child labour, physical or sexual abuse.
- Children who have been orphaned after losing their parents to HIV/AIDS.
Each house we build on site is a home to 12 children and one housemother. The children will be schooled until they are old enough to go to university. They will also be given training and skills. Each family will own sheep, goats and a cow, which they will learn to care for. Each child will also be ‘adopted’ by a family in the local community for support and parental models.
Since 2009 we have also been looking after babies, our youngest babies to join the KCC family were 2-day-old twins, Timothy and Tegan!
Our dream and privilege is to see these frail, broken, abandoned lives nurtured and raised to become healthy adults who will be able to go back and be an active part of rebuilding their communities, bringing transformation to the generations following them.
In addition, to the children’s homes so far we have...
- Destiny Academy (Nursery and primary schools to educate the children at the centre and in the near future it will also cater for poor children from the community.
- A farm
- Youth Centre in Wakiso town to cater the various developmental needs of the youth in the community.
- Carpentry workshop and different schemes to teach the children, youth in the community and help in self-sustainability
- Children’s Camps twice a year our children attend camps, which are run by oversees volunteers; these are always times of great fun, learning and creativity.
- Football Pitch / Recreation Ground Our older boys formed their own football team at KCC, they get professional coaching weekly and play both local teams in matches and in tournaments. We are also developing a big recreation ground on site, which will be used as a netball/football pitch, and the children’s camps will also be held here.
We are still at the beginning of the journey, so much has taken place and so many lives have been given a new start…but there is still a lot more to do!
Kampala Children’s Centre is a story of lives transformed, hope renewed, dreams coming alive, vision becoming reality, loving unconditionally, joy expressed and peace found. Why don’t you join in the story and help to change lives? |
